This pod is built for us to explore the question of how we can change and inspire the world through creating physical paradises, while making a good living from it. Where people can come to relax for the weekend or an extended holiday, take a course, learn an adventure sport, and get inspired to be the change upon their return.
What if we came up with a concept for a real, physical node of inspiration and change that could be applied anywhere in the world? A center of love, personal growth, health, art, activism, spirituality, entreprenuership, and adventure - a model for an enlightened way of living?
What if this node made total economic sense, and was fueled with a shared vision to change the world?
What if the center was close enough to major cities to be accessible for weekend tourists - had the basics in terms of comfy accommodations, delicious food, and fun activities to make it suitable for pretty much any client with USD 100 to spend for a weekend?
What if these nodes could also be starting points for regional development projects - starting a regional organic farm? setting up an alternative power enterprise? creating a local art shop? a snorkeling tour guide operation? a waterfall trek?
What if these nodes could share best practices across all centers? What if those who came loved our concept so much, who felt so good being and doing at our resorts, that wherever they travelled, they would check in with our resorts?
What if we accepted sponsorship from national / regional companies committed to regional sustainable development, and who liked our concept of integrating volunteerism with tourism? What if as part of their sponsorship, their employees would receive a certain amount of evenings at the node?
What if we could employ the thousands like us at these nodes, teaching courses, sharing artistic talents, creating scrumcious menus, guiding folks on adventure tours, coaching seekers on the path to personal development?
What if each resort grew into a village where people migrated to, out of the cities? What if each village comprised of a kitchen, a farm, a library / media center, workshop spaces, meditation spots in gorgeous natural spots nearby, music studios, a theatre for performances and large gatherings, and an enterprise center where people would brainstorm social enterprises for regional development? What if each center housed volunteers from around the world in inexpensive lodgings to work and create at the node for several months? What if each node, when designed, incorporated a real estate plan to house anywhere from 80 people to a few thousand?
What if this actually happened and we could be a part of it? Where would you start your node? What elements would you focus on? Can we create a valuable enterprise while exercising a brilliant humanitarian effort?
nodes of inspiration, spreading like seeds blown by the wind, planting the gardens of tomorrow.
I tried to see if I could change the world by mingling with the rich and powerful - with the philosophy that in order to change a system, the change must come from within - but then I realized it was an illusion. Among the regional business and government leadership of Indonesia and South East Asia, I realized I had to first embark on a personal journey. The change must come from within - and once I realized this I gave up 'everything' - the career track, the resume, the prestige, the benefits, the salary - but I gained a new 'everything' - meaning, purpose, passion, love.
Let us inspire each other to have the courage to give up everything for a new everything - to be and do what it takes to realize the grandest version of our greatest vision.
